New Addiction: Pinterest

How am I just learning about this wonderful website?! I could spend hours here....

I will be making this ^ soon! It looks like a "wintery" wreath :)
I made these(this is not my picture) vase's out of Wine bottles and epsom salt, to easy!
Will post tutorial soon.

Antique Picture Frames

My awesome hubby and I made these amazing picture frames! My sister is coming here in a week and going to take some family pics for us =) We made 6 of them and they are going on my new wainscoting wall.

I haven't officially decided on the color. I was thinking some shade of brown, or a brown black distressed look, but I am doing the pictures in black and white, and didn't want it to look to dark. I have painted one just to see if I like it. I do, hubs doesn't. I guess my sister will be the deciding vote when she gets here!

Here are some pictures of how we made them. Kevin (per my request) brings home the good scrap wood from his work. So we have a stock pile in the garage. The pieces we used were 1x4's. Kevin cut them into 1x2's. The size of the frame I wanted was 16x16, so Kevin measured the pieces and cut them. I used wood glue and glued them all together. They look great!!

We had made two small practice ones. I stained them the color we used on our cabinets because I was thinking that would look good on the frames. I didnt like it at all, of course Kevin did! haha

So, this is what we have so far. I think they will look great with the pictures in them. I will update with new pics when I get them =)
Oh, total cost is ZERO! My favorite type of project.

Wainscoting Love

I AM IN LOVE! The wainscoting turned out soooooo goood! You are honestly going to laugh when I tell you how I did this for $30!!
I was looking online and found some "cheap" wainscoting at amazon.com for $250. At home depot it is $90 for 8 linear feet. So, after seeing this blog my husband and I went to lowes. The 16x20 squares are $12-15 a piece. The top molding is only $5 for 7 ft and we needed two pieces.
So we didnt buy it. $15 x 5 "squares" is a lot! We thought about buying a 7ft piece and cutting it and putting them together ourselfs.... but that is a LOT of work too! I could not sleep last night for the life of me. But, I did come up with this AMAZING idea! Why not just buy picture frames that are 16x20. I knew I could find them pretty cheap.
First stop this morning, Good Will. #1. They didnt have 5 of the same or similar. #2. They were selling for about $15 a piece alos!! Next stop, Walmart. That is where I found the frames for $3 a piece!!! 5 of them = $15. The price of ONE from lowes. Next, we bought the molding board. $10. And the finishing nails $3.50 (which we still have a TON left).
Using paint and caulk that we already had. Wohoo!! I think it made a HUGE difference in the entry way!!
Tomorrow I am going to decorate it as a picture gallery of our amazing wedding pictures. I would like a mantle there, but I am waiting to either build our own, or find a cheap one on CL.

What do you think?! More pictures tomorrow in the day light. And with the decorated wall =)

What's Up This Weekend!

I am very excited about this weekend, we have A LOT of fun projects to do! =) My husband made this compromise with me that if we get all of my "list" done then he can go to his bowling tournament next weekend!! Woohoo!!
1. Clean out the garage and the crawl space, and throw away all the CRAP that we don't use! (I did 90% of the garage when I got home from work today. Now just need to put everything in its new home)
2. Clean and clean out ALL the cabinets in the kitchen. (Another "go me!" I did this when I got home from work, too)
3. Fake Wainscoting ** Favorite project of this weekend. I can NOT wait to do this tomorrow **
4. Caulk the basement window. It rained really hard this for the first time since we have owned the house and the basement got flooded!
5. Paint my accent wall in my craft room. (Husband doesn't know about this yet, I can hear his enthusiasm now....) *I started this tonight. I.Hate.Painting.*
6. Finish my chair upholstering
7. Upcycle the coffee table that is all beaten up.
8. My amazing "Shabby Chic" sign I am making from left over wood.
9. Re do the piping on the Sub Pump.
10. I'm sure I am forgetting a lot......
11. Move all the patio furniture into the garage storage.
12. Sew the hole in the couch cushion that the dogs keep making bigger and bigger!

And of course, all the normal cleaning and chores that my husband thinks magically get done while he is working/bowling/not home.

Yes, it is a never ending list. I don't think my husband had any idea what kind of "deal" he was getting into! The molding on the entry way wall was just added to the list yesterday. I have been wanting it done for a looooooong time. I stumbles upon this lady's blog yesterday and saw her "fake wainscoting" and couldn't believe how cheap it is to do!! I already have the paint, nails, caulking. So all we need to buy is a few pieces of trim board and nail it up! I think it is going to be a lot of work (mainly on hubby) but totally worth it! (I have a feeling we are sloooowly going to be "wainscoting" the whole house! haha, I already want the breakfast bar, dining room, and up the stairs done too!)

Okay, I better get off to bed... we have to be up bright and early and it is almost 1 am!! Yikes! =)

Fabric Canvas

Remember that project I did with the canvas a few weeks ago? Well, I was over it. It just wasnt fitting in with the feel of the room.

So, I have no idea why.., I decided to cover the canvas with fabric and add some fabric flowers. It was a really random project. I love three of the four I have made so far. The fourth is okay, just not my fav.

Here they are and a few picture along the way....

These will most likey find a home in my *Coming Soon* new craft room!

....Inspiration....

:: Love these ::

Cooking =)

So, remember those recipes I was telling you about?! Well..... Cupcakes = huge success. Meatloaf = eh.. not so much.

Both were easy to make, brought the cupcakes to work today for a birthday party and EVERYONE wanted the recipe!! They could not believe that it was "healthy"!! =) The meat loaf was really good and really easy. Just not our fav.

I also made some delish banana bread. No butter or oils, apple sauce instead.

Next on the list, crock pot apple sauce, and pumpkin spice cookies! =) Here are a few pictures, forgot to get some of the cupcakes!

Bar Stool Make-Over

I have been wanting to make over these bar stools my cousin gave me! When we first moved into the house we bought two nice bar stools from Target, and spent way to much $$ on them of course because that was before I discovered the awesome world of furniture redo's! My husband kept telling me NOT to add the padding/fabric to the top of them, but... tonight he was bowling... and I was bored! :-) My cousin gave me three, so I think I am going to make one more. The third one is being used as a bed side table!

First, spray paint the stool. Hot glue some batting to the top of the stool. Hot glue the fabric over that.

Not sure how it is going to hold up with us sitting on it, I will let you know.

Mod Podge Cheat

Some where in blog land I read how to make your own Mod Podge.

Mod Podge = Elmers glue + water. SO easy!

Mod Podge- $7
Home made Mod Podge- $0.35!!

I bought the generic brand of elmers glue at wal-mart for 35 cents. Mixed equal parts with water in a pretty salsa jar. Done! I haven't used it yet, but I will be using it on my paint sample art project ASAP!! :)

Coming this week!

I have been slacking in the blogging department! I need to add a few post .. front door make over, the start to the basement remodel, monogram curtain, canvas wall art and a few recipes, too! I usually don't even read people recipes that they post on their blogs, but not anymore!

I have to bring cupcakes to work for a birthday party on Wednesday, so I decided to search around blog land for a good, healthy, cupcake recipe! I chose this one : PB chocolate cupcakes! Don't they look delish!?? I am leaving out the mini PB cups because that just some extra calories, I think it will still taste good without them!

Tomorrow night I am making some Mexican meatloaf in the crock pot. Not exactly sure where I ran across that recipe, but sounded good! I am going to start using my crock pot at least once a week now that it is fall, probably more if I can find some easy recipes with few ingredients!! :-)

Also, hopefully, I will be finishing up a quilt I am making for my dad for fathers day!! (yes, I know that was a few months ago, don't tell him!) You will see a few sewing projects this week- I am doing my first ever shirt alteration for a friend. Lets hope it turns out awesome for her!!

Oh- saw this pillow while I was browsing around Kohl's the other day... $50!! Looks just like mine, except I like mine a LOT better and was less than $2! Wohoo!

PS- mom, if you are reading, my x-mas wish list consists of only one thing, a Cricuit Expression 2! :-)

"W"

I am in love with monograms lately!! And have really been wanting to make one from cardboard!
This project = free.
I used cardboard, hot glue, spray adhesive, spray paint, and spices from our spice rack that we never use!
Yes, I know I am crazy. I was going to make some tissue paper flowers and put them on the W, but when I started doing that ... they weren't looking so good!! So, I spray painted the letter, and kept thinking.. what do I have laying around that would have some sort of textured look... and came up with spices!!
I have a few pictures of what I was doing, then.. like I said, I was a little stuck and just started guessing! So I don't have pictures of the spray painting or adding the spices texture.

The start. I traced my "W" on to some cardboard.

And then cut it out. Then traced this "W" at cut it out. You need two letters, front and back.

Now cut out 2in pieces of cardboard, and glue to the letter.

Should look like this.

This was when I was contemplating the tissue paper flowers...

I love my little scarecrow babies.

I love it, it looks great on my "fall" decorated cabinets! :-)
